3 New Winners Are Crowned in Second Annual Ophthalmology 360 Photo Contest

In its second year, the contest produced more than double the number of entries from 2025, making the competition much tougher.

Global (October 19, 2026) — Ophthalmology 360®, a leading digital platform from International Healthcare Media (IHM), was pleased to host its Second Annual Photo Contest in July 2026, inviting ophthalmologists worldwide to submit compelling images capturing the most challenging, innovative, or visually striking ophthalmic cases.

A panel of 3 ophthalmologist judges reviewed submissions and selected the top 3 cases. Read on to see the top 3 photos and the clinicians behind them (winners are not listed in any particular order; all 3 were weighed equally as winners of the contest).

Winner #1: Jason Bacharach, MD, North Bay Eye Associates, United States

Image description: “iDose In Position”

‍

“I find it so stunning. I took it last year. I was doing some of the first commercial iDose implantations in the United States, and we were taking pictures for the [manufacturer]. When I saw that one, I was like, ‘This is very different.’ It was the contrast; it was the clarity of the proximal imagery of the iDose implanted into the angle, with the iris crypts next to it.”

Winner #2: Srishti Khullar, MBBS, MS, DNB, Armed Forces Medical College, India

Image description: “Fundus image showing exudative retinal detachment secondary to metastasis from systemic malignancy.”

‍

It tells two stories in a frame. The extensive exudative retinal detachment immediately catches the eye. It's visible to everybody, as you can also notice, but the underlying metastatic lesion reveals the actual diagnosis. The creamy yellow lesion with undulating retinal elevation, the retinal fold, and vessels draped across the elevated surface make it visually striking, and clinically, it is equally compelling because the obvious finding, the detachment, is the consequence of a very serious disease that the patient had.

Winner #3: Dhaivat Shah, MBBS, MS, DNB, FMRF, MBA, Ahalia Eye Care, UAE

Image description: “Raising the Red Flag. Gonioscopic imaging displaying a solitary cluster of neovascularization of the angle (NVA)invading the trabecular meshwork in a case of early proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Emerging like a crimson warning flag against the golden horizon oft he anterior chamber, this delicate vascular tree serves as nature's distress signal for retinal starvation.”

‍

We were treating this patient with injections because he had macular edema. But as our teachers used to tell us, at 90 days, at 100 days, at three months, do the gonioscopy, do the angiography; you'll always have to look for neovascularization. This is a tiny frown that we found on gonioscopy and that changed the management, and we had to add a panretinal photocoagulation. A tiny thing, but again, significantly profound. The clinical decision changed because of that.
